Moving into sitting
Transitionٱللَّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ
Allahu Akbar
Allah is the Greatest.
Rakat 2: Qa‘dah / Tashahhud
After the second Sujood, sit for Tashahhud. This is the testimony recited while sitting in salah.
Position
Sit calmly on the left foot with the right foot upright. Rest both hands on the thighs near the knees.
Left handRest it on the left thigh or knee.
Right handRest it on the right thigh or knee.
Index fingerRaise at “la ilaha”, lower at “illa Allah”.
StillnessSit calmly and keep the gaze lowered.
Tashahhud
Core recitationٱلتَّحِيَّاتُ لِلَّهِ وَٱلصَّلَوَاتُ وَٱلطَّيِّبَاتُ، ٱلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا ٱلنَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ ٱللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ، ٱلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَىٰ عِبَادِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلصَّالِحِينَ، أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا ٱللَّهُ، وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ
At-tahiyyatu lillahi was-salawatu wat-tayyibat. As-salamu ‘alayka ayyuhan-Nabiyyu wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh. As-salamu ‘alayna wa ‘ala ‘ibadillahis-salihin. Ashhadu an la ilaha illa Allah, wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan ‘abduhu wa rasuluh.
All greetings, prayers, and pure words are for Allah. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger.
This is the first sitting, so stop after “wa rasuluh”. Then say “Allahu Akbar” and stand up for the next rakat.
Child-friendly meaning
I sit and remember that all worship belongs to Allah. I send peace, and I say that there is no god but Allah and Muhammad is His Messenger.
