Prophet Nuh, Alayhi as-Salam
Dua 2 of 30Source: Quran, Surah Hud, 11:47
Quran context
Prophet Nuh, Alayhi as-Salam, cared deeply about his son, but Allah taught him that a servant should not ask without true knowledge. Prophet Nuh, Alayhi as-Salam, immediately turned back to Allah. This teaches children that even prophets showed humility before Allah's knowledge.
Rabbi innee a'oodhu bika an as'alaka ma laysa lee bihi 'ilm, wa illa taghfir lee wa tarhamnee akum minal-khasireen.
My Lord, I seek refuge in You from asking about what I do not know. If You do not forgive me and have mercy on me, I will be among the losers.

What children learn: Sometimes we do not understand everything. A believer can say, "Allah knows best," and ask Allah to protect them from speaking without knowledge.
Hadith connection: No specific authentic hadith background is needed for this dua. The Quranic setting is the source.
Talk together: Why is "I do not know" sometimes a wise answer?
